The Glass Case, 1939. A dramatic film about the auto glass industry.
The automotive glass industry was one of the most competitive industries in America in 1939. Automobile makers were very slow to adopt the much more expensive and higher acuity of newly patented Safety Plate Glass for automobiles. The older, although safe, Safety Sheet Glass had rather large acuity issues and could vastly distort the side view of the driver and passengers.
The licensee holders and manufacturers of Safety Plate Glass were trying to motivate the public and thereby automobile manufactures through a unique viral method:

Steve Jobs at Apple WWDC in 1997, not yet the CEO, this is the moment introduced the “Think Different” commercial to the world. Many have seen the “debate” with a developer in the audience, few fully heard what he said leading up to previewing the commercial. It is one of his golden moments.

Steve Jobs “We hire people to tell us what to do” This is the companion to a question I answered on Quora: qr.ae/TWt5nW A tribute to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify t...

own this moment… "All that you and I can ever own, is just this single moment. We do not own the past and no one is promised a tomorrow. We just have the moment. This is not a religious statement, but it can be, this is not a philosophical statement, but it could be, and this is not just a scientific fact, and that it is, this is our reality. You are not, and never can be your past, nor can you...

Alexa, Siri, Google Assistant, Microsoft Sam, Miku and others all owe their very existence to this device, which was already ahead of its time. Let’s take some time to look past the unsettling horror aspect of artificial voices and look at them from a scientific standpoint.
I used to think this machine, and not the early IBM computer, was the source of that creepy “Daisy, Daisy” audio that’s used in weird and scary TikToks.
Did anyone think about a Voder registration card?
Boy this hits different in the post ChatGPT world

Gates and Buffett embraced who they are...Bezos seems to be trying on a new persona and doesn't want anyone to remember him as a nerd (recently he dressed as a cowboy for some kind of photo spread) it's kinda sad with all that $ and he still was ashamed of being a nerd
geocities moment
This is such a pretty commericial, and it's narrated by Jim Cummings?? I can imagine how exciting this was for little girls
Hello, I'm a Macintosh. Never trust a computer you can't connect anything to and costs twice as much as everything else with the same spec.

Barrett must have had a lot of fun with scenes like this one. And Capt. Christopher is clearly trying (and ultimately failing) not to laugh.

The intellect. How must it felt like for him to live amongst other people that are so much stupider than him. The patience he must have had to develop... having to explain slowly for the rest of us... seeing mistake being made over and over again despite him and others having warned about them beforehand.

I wonder if Steve Jobs saw this as a youth and was inspired?🤔
But everyone still misses “doodle input” WITH speech ;)
Guy was a secret commie. I can tell by his thoughts on working for a living. Its only obvious that as work gets more complex many smaller details need to be managed and operated by people who will be employed for thtlat purpose. Its inevitable. Also... how the hell did we get this far without work? That insulting thing he just spoke about....
Hunters...15hours of work a week to gather all th necessary .. That s a time of freedom we are far behind to being free...
And just today, we are beginning to see this coming to fruition. What a time to be living. Scary and exciting!
Crazy thay one first, if not the first synth was speech synth.
But why? Wouldn't straight lines be a better choice?
Voder laugh at 2:00 sounds exactly like those smokers who have that pump in the hole of their throat lol
Dennis Klatt voice synthesizer has been used in metaphor for spiritual entertainment on the movie Excercist video called Gemini Serial Killer you gotta see the video for yourself for comparison like scream horror is one of the newest serial killing movies also. Voice Synthesizers have been used on people while under anesthesia and not knowing how to explain themselves. I don’t like this invention and I hope that everyone that like this invention goes to hell.
Morgellons ?
I'm a huge fungus fan but this is kind of b.s. it just randomly gree put like any other plant and kept its routes to nutrient. Since it didn't have to deal with any obstacles like underground ledge, government zoning existing buildings it just went the easiest route. Any dummy would know to just make the lines straight lol
But…. If you have to have an operator, isn’t it easier to just have the operator talk themselves? Other than helping someone that’s mute, what was the purpose of this??
That’s actually so cool!! It sounds better than most voice synthesizers these days tbh-
Hello
Google to kch or story bata raha hay.
I like how the voice in the ad for the dol is actually a higher quality version of the voice encoded on the audio chip in the device itself. It uses a form of sound caled lpc which is made up of some sawtooth waves and a carier frequency to set the pitch, and using that, rough aproxamationa of recordings (usually speech) can be reproduced.
Was this as terrifying in 1939 as it is in 2024?
The future is now, old man! It's now possible with AI.

Gosh. He looks a lot younger here. They did away with the button and gave him the glasses sensor in 2008. I don't see a sensor on his glasses here, so I'd guess late 90s/early 2000s?

This is Steve Jobs decrying precisely the things Steve Jobs would do to make Apple the monopoly it is now.
frist sining synthesizer. it was before computers.
